Isidre Fainé Casas. Chairman

Isidre Fainé Casas is the current Chairman of Criteria CaixaCorp.

Isidre Fainé was appointed to our Board in 2000 and appointed Deputy Chairman between 2008 and May 2009.

He is Chairman of ”la Caixa” and ”la Caixa” Foundation. He holds a Doctorate in Economic Sciences and an ISMP in Business Administration from Harvard University, and likewise holds a Diploma in Senior Management from the IESE Business School.

He is a member of the Royal Academy of Economics and Finance and of the Royal Academy of Doctors. Moreover, Isidre Fainé is Chairman of the Association of Catalan  Savings Banks. He is also President of the Spanish Confederation of Directors and Executives (CEDE) and the Spanish Chapter of the Club of Rome. He has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Deposit Guarantee Fund for Savings Banks since 2007. In April 2010, he has been appointed Chairman of the Association of Spanish Savings Banks (CECA). In July 2010, he has been appointed member of The Governing Committee of the Fund for Orderly Bank Restructuring (FROB).

He began his professional banking career as Investment manager for Banco Atlántico in 1964, later becoming General Manager of Banco de Asunción in Paraguay in 1969. On his return to Barcelona, he held various managerial posts in financial entities: Head of Personnel at Banca Riva y García (1973), Director  and General Manager of Banca Jover (1974) and General Manager of Banco Unión (1978). In 1982 he joined ”la Caixa”, and was appointed Deputy  Executive General Manager and in 1999 General Manager of the entity, of which he took in June 2007.

He was appointed to the board of The Bank of East Asia in June 2009 and on May 11, 2009, he stepped down as Chairman of Abertis to take over the mantle of first Deputy-Chairman. He is also Deputy-Chairman of Telefónica and board member of Banco BPI, S.A., and has been serving as second Vice-Chairman of Repsol YPF since the end of 2007, while sitting on the board of GF Inbursa since October 2008. On June, 2010 he has been appointed Deputy–Chairman of Sociedad General de Aguas de Barcelona.

He was a director of Gas Natural S.D.G., S.A. from 1992 to 2003. Between 2003 and 2004 he was a member of the Board of Directors of Atlantia SPA (formerly Autostrade SPA). He also served on the Board of Brisa Auto-Estradas Portugal from 2003 to 2008 and he was board member of PortAventura from 2006 until October 2008.
