Juan Mª Nin Genova

Juan Mª Nin Genova. Deputy Chairman

Juan Mª Nin Génova was appointed to our Board in June 2007 and appointed Deputy Chairman in 2009.

He was appointed CEO of "la Caixa" in June 2007. Born in Barcelona in 1953, he holds a degree in Law and Economics from the University of Deusto and a Masters of Laws from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences.

He began his career as a member of the Spanish team that negotiated the accession of Spain to the European Community (1978-1980). In 1980 he joined Banco Hispano Americano with responsibilities in International and Corporate Banking and later in Retail Banking. In 1992, after the merger with Banco Central, he was appointed General Manager for Retail Banking and member of the Management Committee.

After the merger with Banco Santander (1999), Juan María Nin continued as General Manager and member of the Management Committee. In 2002, he was appointed CEO of Banco Sabadell.

He has a longstanding career in commercial, international and corporate banking, as well as a great deal of experience in managing banks mergers and acquisitions.

He is a board member at Repsol YPF, Gas Natural, BPI and SegurCaixa Holding. In October 2008, he became member of the Board of GF Inbursa. In May 2009, he was appointed member of the Supervisory Board of Erste Group Bank.

He has served on the Board of Directors of various industrial and services companies, and currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Federico García Lorca Foundation, the Board of Governors of the University of Deusto, the Fundación del Consejo España/Estados Unidos, the Fundación del Consejo España/China and the Fundación del Consejo España/India, ESADE Board of Trustees and Fundación CEDE.
